Hi everyone!

I'm a current HS senior and I was just accepted to GSP after applying to CAS. I'll admit I was confused at first, but after reading the website, the packets NYU sent, and talking to my guidance counselor I feel pretty excited about the program. Don't worry, I read all the memories, so I won't post with any ignorant comments. I just wanted to say hello and hopefully get a feel for the school.

It sounds like GSP is a tight(er) knit community, compared to the rest of the undergrad colleges' students. What kinds of things do you guys do for fun outside of class? I understand this is New York, so the possibilities are endless, but are there any traditional venues or events GSPers (or NYU kids, for that matter) frequent? I'm a big fan of the poetry slam/open mic scene, so I wondered if anyone shared my interests.

Also, on a scale of 0-5 (0 being "I go out every night and barely have to do any work" and 5 being "I have no social life"), how time-consuming/difficult is the workload? I don't mind challenging work as long as it's somewhat enjoyable- but I suppose that's the same with everyone.

I have a beautiful copy of "Bioinquiry" for anyone taking Wallace's Life Science course. I think I maybe highlighted two lines and then sort of stopped reading it.
List price for it is like 80 something, I'm shooting for around 50.

Also, if anyone is taking Jeske's Cultural Topics class (Arts in the City), I have all the books for that too, pretty much unused. I want them gooone.

Either leave me a comment here or on my LJ or best option at smithinator at gmail dot com.

I have a question about the GSP at NYU; I read through all the memories but I couldn't find my answer.

I just got my acceptance letter in the mail to GSP, having been denied admission to CAS. I can't figure out if this is a good thing, or a bad thing. Actually, I have no idea whatsoever what the GSP IS. From what I read, it sounds like I'll just be receiving the typical liberal arts education, except with smaller classes, and I won't have a major declared. After my two years, then I can transfer to CAS (where my transfer is guaranteed) and start taking classes specialized to my major. Is this all correct?

So, what IS the GSP? I've had one person tell me it's kind of like being wait-listed, except I'm going to actually be attending the school. Another person told me it's like being in the honours or IB program, that it's really exclusive and good. And someone else told me that it's kind of like being a temp in an office: I'm an employee of that office, but not REALLY, not to the same extent that other, long-term office workers are. So I've read a lot from the website, but what I really need to hear is the less dressed-up definition.

Thanks for any help, and sorry if this has already been answered.

Subject:NOT Asian-exclusive...
Time:03:07 pm
Hey, my name is Evelyn, Cultural Chair of NYU's Chinese Student Society as well as one of this year's co-coordinators for The Silk Road, a Chinese Cultural Gala we are holding this March. Our main aim is to promote Chinese culture through traditional dance, instrumental music, singing, and a cultural fashion show as well as raise money for an overseas charity.

We are currently looking for any choreographers (of traditional dance routines such as, but not limited to, the fan dance, ribbon, etc), performers (no prior experience necessary), musicians, and/or models as well as anyone interested in providing any additional help (or know of any schools that would be willing to help) so that we can proudly say that it was 100% student-run.

Please note, this is NOT Chinese-exclusive OR Asian-exclusive, we welcome ANYONE who appreciates Chinese culture and has experience/talent in the arts.

We also realize that a lot of students are busy, but we promise flexible schedules. Remember, it's for a good cause!

For more information, please contact me at nyucss@gmail.com.

Thanks!

I am a GSP freshman and am about to pick my spring semester classes. I have to choose a cultures class, but I am also thinking about changing my prose class to one of the specialized sections (The Marketplace). If you have taken that prose class, what did you think of it and the instructor (McCormack)?

Did anyone have a really good global cultures class/teacher? What was the class like? Would you recommend it to someone who does not have any idea which one to take?

Thank you very much in advance!

Sean

Do you want to be in a movie? See yourself up on the big screen even if you don't have any affiliation with filmmaking or acting?

I'm a film student and am filming a short film tomorrow and am in need of an INDIAN (or atleast must look Indian) male and female. No acting experience is required, it's relatively easy and there is no dialogue. The female however, must know how to dance "Indian" and I'd prefer if she had a choreographed dance (it could be anything, I'm shooting simple shots). If you want more information, are interested or know of anyone who would be please contact me via e-mail: aym211(at)nyu(dot)edu. It will be lots of fun and I will also TAKE YOU OUT TO LUNCH!

Shooting Dates:
Thursday 10/27 and Friday 10/28

ps this isn't anything like a Bollywood film if you're wondering, it's actually the opposite ;-)
