So. Housing. After a lot of perusing of the nyu.edu/housing website, my parents and I finally brought it down to three: Weinstein, Hayden, and Goddard. Right now Weinstein is my top choice, because of its proximity to Washington Square Park and.. well, food. I'd really appreciate if there's anything anyone can add on to the official NYU descriptions of these three residences. Like, do all the art/drama kids live in Hayden, is Goddard only for prisses, etc. Also, am I wrong in assuming that most of my classes as a GSP freshman will be held around Wash Sq Park (this was the idea I got when I took the tour..).

Thanks very much for any help!!

pretty much, when you go to college, the freshmen dorms are assigned so you don't necessarily get the art kids in one dorm, and prissy bitches in another. weinstein, i have found, has a high concentration of party people, or at least it did last year. my friend's floor used to get drunk together and vomit in the hallways... anyway. all your classes are pretty much across the street. and there is a lot of food in weinstein. personally, i thought weinstein looked like a cement block prison. but then again, i lived in rubin. and rubin is just awesome.

my parents thought rubin was too far away from wash sq. park (is it really just a five minute walk?) and that living without AC would be crazy in NYC... thoughts?

I lived in Brittany last year, no AC. Not a problem, just bring a big fan. We didn't have too many excessively hot days, though. But it wasn't bad. And Brittany is almost as far as Rubin, and it's definitely just a five minute walk. Rubin's only a block farther. Not far at all.

yeah? the only major perk i saw in hayden was that.. you barely have to move to get to class (which actually is pretty damn appealing). what else makes hayden great??

Goddard and Weinstein are closest to the majority of the classes I have had this year.

weinstein has the most crowded dining hall, yeah it's the biggest, but they are always out of stuff and it sucks. hayden's a lot smaller, but it's also a lot nicer. there's heat/ac and to get to class you just have to walk across the park (five minutes). the rooms are really nice, it's close the the west fourth subway station, the staff is great.

and weinstein kinda feels like a prison.

I am in GSP and live at Weinstein. I chose Weinstein for the same reasons you are thinking of. It is very nice to have the big selection of food in the dorm. The rooms here are fine. I haven't seen many others so I can't make any comparisons for you. All of my classes have been close. The farthest ones take 10 minutes to walk to.

If you have any other questions, please ask. I might even have an answer.

Some of the people above said Weinstein is like a prison and the food supply is always low... any truth to that??

Thanks for your help!

Rooms:

It doesn't feel like a prison to me. The rooms feel like any other. They're pretty big, in my opinion. Some people keep there doors open.

Foods:

Downstein (the aramark all you can eat food) has plenty of food. I don't always like it, but then again some people swear by it. Upstein is the food court. It has Quiznos (which is actually the number one reason I picked the dorm) and chik-fil-a, as well as a couple fastfoody aramark inventions. They're not the best in the world, but they're good to get your fix. This is also why people from other dorms come to Weinstein to eat.

A few other things I forgot:

Apparently they are going to be doing work on Weinstein over the summer. Who knows what that means but we can assume that they'll be improving it somehow.

It has AC, too. Which can be very nice.
